In 1998, Charlotte and Philippe Guéniau founded Rice after leaving Paris with a bold mission: to bring more color into everyday life. What started with an iconic collection of raffia storage boxes made in Madagascar has blossomed into a global celebration of joyful living, now reaching design lovers in 45 countries.
While rooted in Scandinavian design principles of quality and functionality, Rice takes a delightfully different path—one painted in bold colors, playful patterns, and cheerful prints. Their approach to "colour you happy" transforms practical items into sources of daily delight, proving that well-designed products can be both useful and smile‑inducing.
Creating Impact Beyond Design
Rice's commitment extends far beyond beautiful products. Through partnerships with UNICEF and the Danish Red Cross, they've supported communities worldwide. In Madagascar, their raffia production provides steady income for over 300 families, preserving traditional craftsmanship while ensuring fair wages. Their environmental dedication shows in the Rice Happy Earth project—65,000 trees planted to create a 36‑hectare forest in Denmark, complete with wildflower meadows and wildlife ponds.
